As I feel I am finally emerging from the 'mother to a newborn' fog I thought it was time to put pen to paper as it were and bring you up to date with all that has been happening here at geriatric towers.
First the very sad news that my much loved father passed away on 08 Jan 2011, aged just 64. As many of you will be aware he was diagnosed with Frontal Temporal Dementia early in 2009 Louisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-79286848047284542802010-11-01T17:39:00.011+00:002011-04-21T12:58:11.727+01:00The Trials and Tribulations of Gestational Diabetes - Part 1As I am becoming an old hand at this gestational diabetes (GD) malarky I thought I would tell you a bit about it. Part 1 will tell you all about how it effected my pregnancy with Star, and Part 2 will fill you in on how it is this time with some facts and figures and hints and tips I have picked up.
When I was expecting Star I was diagnosed at 28 weeks after glucose was found in a routine Louisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-57786333985997408742010-10-26T16:53:00.000+01:002010-10-26T16:53:29.944+01:00The 'Smiling' 17 Weeks Foetus...and other newsOK, so I know I said I'd be back soon, and that was over 3 months ago but hey I'm here now ;-)
First of all, I feel I should explain that the main reason for my absence all these weeks has been due to the fact that this has not been an easy pregnancy. I felt continually and horribly nauseous and was regularly sick for the first 14 weeks. At 12 weeks an amniotic band was discovered, Louisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-31445506327855085412010-07-16T21:55:00.000+01:002010-07-16T21:55:22.098+01:00I'm Back...Now Where To Start...After three and a half months of abstaining from all things of a blogging/tweeting nature I am delighted to say I'm back :D Before I launch into a brief synopsis of what's been going on in my world in this time I feel I should begin with a little explanation.
In the early part of this year I felt myself slipping into a darker and darker place. Having a history of depression I knew that Louisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-70225889998360458092010-03-31T14:38:00.001+01:002010-07-16T21:51:26.360+01:00The Gallery - Outside My Front DoorI decided to take this literally so here are two photos, the first outside my front door, the second outside my front gate....
So, firstly, hands up, we are a pair of petrol heads here at geriatric towers. I know it's not pc, but in my defence we don't do a high mileage in these cars (we have a golf for that), and the 4x4 is a necessity for a baby and two weimeraners...an estate car Louisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-58651344973528717692010-03-24T21:08:00.001+00:002010-03-24T21:08:45.963+00:00Writing Workshop - Introducing Dr, no Mr StarThis weeks writing workshop prompt #3 is 'what do you secretly dream of your children doing?' which is something very close to my heart. It is no secret what I dream of my Star doing. Anyone that knows me will know the answer in an instant. Despite my frequently miserable state of mind I do have a lot to be grateful for. Really, loads. So I thought I would share some of things that have made me happy over the last month. In no particular order...
Star FINALLY decided to walk. He has been able to walk for months I'm certain but has not been brave enough to go it alone. I have found this immenselyLouisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-46510647816109606792010-03-17T14:55:00.001+00:002010-03-17T14:56:57.008+00:00Getting Fit...Can I Do It ?Is enjoying exercise something that you are born with or is it something that can be learned ? I don't know the answer to that but hopefully I am about to find out...
I have been a life long couch potato. I have never been sporty and as with everything else in my life, if I'm not good at it I don't like doing it. I don't like playing in team games due to both the fear of Louisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-71767785115548928302010-03-16T12:51:00.000+00:002010-03-16T12:51:31.402+00:00The Gallery - WhiteThis is my first entry, and I'm fighting against feeling intimidated as I am no photographer, but what the hell. I think this one is rather good. And yes I know it's not about the quality of the photo, but it's the perfectionist in me...
I think it's fairly self explanatory why I chose white so I won't waffle on about that but some context for you...
This is a zoomed in view Louisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-2342384921456730942010-03-15T15:55:00.005+00:002010-03-15T16:31:32.317+00:00The Photo LotteryI have been tagged by my very special bloggy friend Dawn at The Moiderer to partake in the photo lottery meme. This is quite fun as it doesn't require alot of thought and the rules are not too arduous as you will see below.1. Open the first (oldest) photo folder in your computer library2. Scroll to the 10th photo3. Post the photo and the story behind it4. been posting but I do feel the need to explain...
First of all, those of you that take the time to comment here (and thank you...it is something that means SO much to me), will be aware of the issues I have been having with my comments system. You leave a comment, and it never appears on the blogLouisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-54602532249707746952010-03-05T09:00:00.003+00:002010-03-05T11:00:29.130+00:00My Space - A Guest Post
Today, I'm very happy to be introducing a guest post here at Geriatric Mummy's. And being used to my mundane ramblings you are in for a real treat. Erica over at Little Mummy's decided to run a guest post swap and 'Musings of a Geriatric Mummy' was paired with 'Very Bored In Catalunya'. And here is is...a little bit of Catalunian sunshine to brighten your day :-)

Came across this today, and thought I would have a go at posting it. Firstly, a couple of my very good friends are having a tough time at the moment, Mummy at TheMadHouse and the lovely Amanda, who hasn't yet stepped into this mad world of blogging, and I thought this may put a little smile on their faces, even if ony for a short while. God knows weLouisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-65184038144032737892010-03-01T15:33:00.001+00:002010-03-01T15:34:10.173+00:00Keep Calm and Carry On...on Groundhog DayBefore I start, I will issue the obligatory warnings. This is a post about baby making, has more than it's fair share of self pity and depressive content, will undoubtedly contain information of the 'too much information' genre, and will be even more rambling than normal...incomprehensible even. You have been warned.Louisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-78690353693883281202010-02-23T15:47:00.001+00:002010-02-23T21:56:46.647+00:00So many awards, so little time...I love getting blog awards. No really, I do. And I have been very fortunate of late to have been the very lucky recipient of more than a few.
I will never be a 'top blogger' as you all know, as I bleat on about far too much misery for that. And I wouldn't say this blog is generally an uplifting read. Nor is it full of inspiring things to make and do, or pearls of wisdom, or funny Louisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-82620939492506492322010-02-22T21:25:00.001+00:002010-02-22T21:31:23.799+00:00Menu Planning MondayWell, belatedly once again, here is my menu planning post. It really would make sense to prepare this post on a Sunday and schedule for a Monday morning but alas I'm not that organised. Time always runs away from me. Last weeks menu plan was a complete waste of time as, due to my feeling decidedly under the weather, much of the catering arrangements turned out to be of the 'everyone fend for Louisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-3761192285283034732010-02-20T16:38:00.003+00:002010-02-20T22:19:18.195+00:00A Little Bit of Housekeeping
If you haven't already found your way to my new 'About Me' page I thought I should spend a few minutes explaining some of the changes I've made.
I have been blogging for a few months now, and as expected it has taken a few unexpected turns. I feel that it has the potential to become too varied in it's post content and in doing so, there would be too many posts that were not of interest Louisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-47586078890483974522010-02-19T16:19:00.000+00:002010-02-19T16:19:36.989+00:00A snapshot view of the nature v nurture debateLast night, The Daddy was telling me about a conversation he'd had with a client about the nature/nurture debate, and how said client feels it has impacted his own family.
The Daddy and I are the type of parents that spend alot of time thinking and talking about how we are bringing up our son, and our hopes and dreams for him. Part 2
A short while ago you may recall reading a post about how lucky I was to have such a marvellous husband. You may also recall that I stated at the outset that I didn't generally consider myself a lucky person. Today, or the last 24 hours, has been one of 'those days' and I am about to share it with you. I will apologise in advance for the rather self pitying tone, but I am ill, Louisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-72156387173901290162010-02-15T09:26:00.007+00:002010-02-17T16:06:17.483+00:00Menu Planning Monday
Week two here we come. No change in my or Star's breakfast and lunch arrangements as outlined in last weeks post, but this week The Daddy and my step son (11) will also be here. They usually have eggs of some desciption for breakfast, and join me in sarnies or leftovers for lunch. So here is the dinner Menu Plan for Geriatric Towers...

In 2008 business was booming and The Daddy and I found ourselves in the very privileged position of being able to indulge ourselves. In fact 2007/8 was a period full of what dreams are made of. But, as you will know from previous blog posts, life is not all about what you have and where you go.
In October 2007 weLouisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1138321168982804015.post-89770068769305638602010-02-13T22:05:00.001+00:002010-02-14T17:22:16.454+00:00Things That Have Made Me Happy This WeekThose of you brave enough to have read my last post will know that this last week has had it's trying moments. But there have been some fab ones too which I thought I would share just to brighten the mood a little.
Star made some Valentine cookies and a card at nursery. Well, when I say he made the cookies, I'm not sure that is entirely accurate. I would like to think that, in some small way, I have been missed today. You see, I have been absent from blog comments, blog posts and twitter until late this afternoon and now I'm here to tell you why...

Having had a few enthusiastic responses to my suggestion of sharing menu plans and recipes I am pleased to announce the arrival of a new weekly feature here a Geriatric Mummy's.So, to start us off I guess I should share mine. This is an unusual week for us as The Daddy is on a course this week and staying away so it will only be Star and I eating. I should also explain that Star has his own Louisehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12596061740891058187noreply@blogger.com4
